Hints on reading a textbook.
Textbooks are carefully organized in a predetermined logical flow of ideas. To make it easier to understand you must know the Author's game plan.1. Write down the chapter headings in a long single sentence. This will give some sense of the direction of the text.
2. Read the preface with the chapter headings in mind. The preface will tell you what the intentions of the textbook are and how it will accomplish its desired results.
3. At each chapter read the first couple of paragraphs which is an introduction to the chapter. It will inform you of what is in the chapter.
4. Read the conclusion or summary at the end of the chapter. This will tell you what is important to remember from the chapter.
5. Now read the chapter. It will be so much quicker and clearer having followed the suggestions
